As the snow is melting and the air is beginning to lessen its chill, the staff at Hopewell Music Cooperative North (HMCN) is warming up to their new space at North United Methodist Church. Weekends have been spent clearing out and cleaning up the old nursery on the second floor of the Church, which HMCN can now call their own. With the help of Chris Vang, Boy Scout Troop #100, and a generous 20 gallon donation from Amazon Paint, the entire space has been repainted and is ready for musical modifications. Expect the HMCN to be all moved in soon!
February was also an incredibly busy month for performances. Valentines day featured the “Songs of Liberty and Love” concert, performed by the Hopewell Orchestras and Jazz Ensemble. The Hopewell Chamber Orchestra performed at the Taste of West Broadway, and HMCN Founder Dameun Strange held a concert on the 27th of February with his ensemble, Strange New Music Experiment, which featured original contemporary chamber music inspired by the poetry of Langston Hughes and Rita Dove. In addition, the Hopewell Flute Choir performed at the Upper Midwest Flute Association’s (UMFA) Flute Choir Showcase event on February 28th. There was also the monthly Student Recital, a HMCN Staff and Faculty Recital, and a special February Fancies concert from the Esperanza Ensemble (with newcomer Melanie Ditter joining on the French Horn).
Hopewell’s third birthday is coming up on Saturday, April 11th with the Founder’s Day event! Featuring crafts, face-painting, food, music, and tons of fun, HMCN is proud to open this event to everyone. Talk to the staff, have a tasty treat, and enjoy a short concert on a Spring evening with us at River of Life Lutheran Church at 2200 Fremont Ave N in Minneapolis. Beyond being a great chance to hear each of the Hopewell ensembles, Founder’s Day will be a great opportunity to learn more about Hopewell’s history, and its ‘Music for All’ mission. A $10 donation at the door is suggested, with all proceeds helping grow HMCN even further in a fantastic fourth year. Even if you aren’t able to attend, please visit www.hopewellmusic.com to discover how you can help bring high-quality music education to the community.
Volunteers are always welcome at HMCN, as well as that old instrument you have sitting in the basement, or those extra copies of sheet music. How about the music stand you never use? We’ll take ‘em all! If you are interested in donating your time, please contact Martha at Martha@hopewellmusic.com and to donate those extra musical supplies, please contact Andrea at Andrea@hopewellmusic.com. Or feel free to give us a call at 612.466.0696! Don’t forget to like us on Facebook, Twitter, and don’t forget to visit our website at www.hopewellmusic.com.
